What kind of PA system should I use my band?

There comes a time in the life of every band, if someone really wants them to play somewhere. (To be somewhere that is not the drummers basement, I do. Mean) So far, the singer was using a microphone plugged into the keyboard amp, but that would be enough if we (play in a restaurant or a barn or a terrace) ? The truth dawns: we need a PA system for vocals. But what is it?

There are several factors you must consider and a number of traps, you mustavoid. I'm here for the highlights, in which the most important decisions that need you and your band to be the right system for your hard-earned money. Since I only had a long time with a couple of these systems, I do not recommend specific brands or models. But I'll give you some points to consider its way through the available systems.

1. Powered mixer or individual components?

The first thing to decide if an all-in-onePA system or individual components. An all-in-one, also known as "Power Mixer", contains a mixer (usually 8 channels), a power amplifier (two channels for main and monitor), speakers, and maybe some basic effects like reverb and delays.

If this is your very first band PA system, do this type of unit, especially if you do not have a healthy person for your band. An all-in-one unit is easy to install and requires only power supply, microphone and speakersConnections, and you're done! You can get them at the side of the stage and monitor, with easy access to controls, including levels important.

A separate component system with mixer, power amplifier and effects devices set up requires more time and get to go to a concert, even if it provides more flexibility. If you are someone who organize and manage the PA for you, a component could operate the system. Otherwise I would keep it simple and go with theAll-in-one.

2. How much power?

The level of power you need from the PA system depends on the size of the places await, as well as the type of music you play, the game. (An acoustic band without drums PA consumes less energy than a head-banging metal suit.) Another consideration is whether one thinks only in singing, singing or instruments, more determined to run through the PA. Expand put down (even a little ') on the PA and, therefore, the amp on stage really eatcan!

The fact is that you should use the full power system can not afford to buy. You are only required to guarantee more power than you think. Then throw in the fact also that the services for these marketing systems as two-digit years as the number of engineering are often misleading and ... Conclusion: I have never heard of a retrospective of the band and say they wish they had bought a small PA system!

3. How many speakers?

I wouldrecommended, two speakers and two monitors. Even in a small town, you really need the left and right main speakers distributed sound properly balanced throughout the room. (When I say left and right, I'm not talking about a stereo setup - the signal in both speakers.) With two speakers, you reduce the number of listeners who are closer to the finale as PA speakers are, and therefore can not at listen to the song.

One might be tempted to skimp on the monitor and speakers withonly one. This may be fine if it is just a singer, instrumentalist, but also listen to benefit themselves and others the right players. After two monitor speakers so that everyone should be somewhere near at least one of them!

4. What about microphones and other accessories?

If you do not have anything else at hand, I would choose a faithful Shure SM58 for any singer. Probably do not need Mike on drums. In fact, you should avoidMicrophones for anything other than singing, if possible, since each microphone on the stage crying feedback breathtaking coming our way!

When you run the tools for the PA, the use of direct field of view between the different instruments - guitar, bass, keyboard - and its amplifier stage, a part of the signal to the PA. If there is an acoustic guitar, you use the signal from the pick-up, instead of acceptance. If you do not have a built-in pick-up, which will also try an add-on type, although this may not have the sound quality is required. Fortunately, most seem to have built-in acoustic pickups in those days.

It is also necessary cables for microphones, monitors, main power cable, and possibly a snake (a multi-core cable allows you to eight or more signals between the stage and the PA mixer running).

Gretsch G5122 Review - Twang Machine!

In recent years, with the Korean import tools Gretsch high quality, including the famous Gretsch G5122 launched. This guitar offers a variety of "Twang" for the dollar. So if you feel in a guitar with a little 'different than, say, a Gibson Les Paul and Fender Stratocaster is probably also would like to look at the G5122. What do you offer?

G5122 Hollowbody sports a top laminate maple body and neck. A 22-fret rosewoodKeyboard is standard, as the medium jumbo frets. The scale is 24.56 "with a nut width of 1-11/16" (43mm). The guitar is also available with chrome including two dual-coil humbucker pickups equipped.

The hardware definitely adds to the original style of guitar. The G5122 offers G-Arrow Knobs, Standard Strap Buttons Gretsch, chrome hardware and vintage-style tuners. A Bigsby B60 Vibrato (hey, this is a Gretsch, after all, right?) And a Adjust Matic bridge complete the picture.

We triedthe G5122 Dr. Z MAZ-18 NO combo and a Fender Twin Reverb. With two amplifiers, the Gretsch Twang just oozed vintage. We could not help but play some of our favorite Beatles, Chet Atkins and Brian Setzer licks. The stock pickups have a good job on the translation, of course, a great guitar sound.

The clean sounds were great, clear and powerful. When we cranked the amp a bit ', was significantly enough to cut through a mix. This is certainly not a shredderAx, do not buy this if you have a Dragonforce Tribute Band. But if you're into classic rock, blues, jazz or country, you can certainly find a use for the G5122.

Few guitars are perfect, but we had a niggles here and there. The tuner, but keep the good mood, nor cheap and hated to be improved. The causeway was feeling a little 'strange, but had no effect on the pitch.

We were very pleased with the overall measure and finish very satisfied. The guitar has aUnique Walnut Stain finish that also contributes to the elegant, nostalgic atmosphere. Honestly, you make the guitar look much more expensive than it really is. We are also pleased with the action. We had no problems with work or lead or rhythm. We had only minor adjustments to the bridge and truss rod make things work as we wanted.

It's hard not to love Gretsch G5122. It's the playability, the looks, sounds, and for you to set it apart from the crowd, especially with thebeautiful finish. E 'bright enough to play for three hours together and not break your back. Above all, the price (about $ 700 new) is accessible.

You can apply distortion, wah-wah, noise gate, compressor, flanger, reverb, chorus, delay, and some of the other filters.

For an authentic jazz sound, you should be a semi-acoustic hollow body electric guitar. Models such as the Gibson ES-175 or the Gretch Tennessean can run in thousands of dollars, but there are also excellent entry models like Ibanez Artcore line of guitars. Guitar manufacturers such as Yamaha or Guild also semi-335 entry-model noise similar to the more expensive Gibson There aremany Hollowbody Epiphone Guitars will also be appropriate and stable coming out of Gibson. How to Play Country Lead Guitar

In the late nineteen thirties a cowboy musician called Bob Willis introduced the electric guitar to his audiences. Nobody knows whether they noticed this historic innovation but ten years later a whole generation sat up and took notice when Arthur Smith released his recording of "Guitar Boogie". This hit instrumental established the electric guitar as a musical force to be reckoned with. While the world of rock and roll moved to the music of Stratocasters it took a while for country musicians to move from the more restrained tones of the Gretsch archtop to the more "biting" Fender sound.

Many guitarists play their country solos on the Fender Telecaster with a Fender tube "Twin", Super Reverb or Deluxe Reverb amplifier. On the other hand, if they are on a tight budget they have been known to settle for a Peavey tube amp. One piece of equipment you will not need is the whammy bar. It is not used in playing country music.

In contrast to other musical genres that use the electric guitar, country music does not employ a wide variety of electronic effects in guitar solos. Alot of country guitar players use a strictly clean sound, maybe sprucing the music up with a little reverberation. The only effect consistently utilized by country guitar soloists is compression which enforces limits on the sound waves produced by the guitar. This effect enhances the volume of the softer notes, and slightly mutes the louder notes. This makes the overall volume seem more even.

When it comes to technique you can start off as a flatpicker but many country guitar players will use a thumbpick in combination with the index and ring finger. This naturally increases your level of versatility more than somewhat. There is a technique called "chicken pickin" which involves popping the guitar strings with your fingers. It is a little hard to describe in writing but you can see plenty of examples on YouTube, but to get the general idea, try this experiment: hold your right hand over the guitar strings, then mute your E (sixth) string by resting your index finger on it down towards the bridge. Next, pluck the string with your thumb. This will give you a "thuck" sound. To complete the chicken pickin move, pluck the open string with the nail of your index finger. This move is repeated until it comes naturally.

Country solo playing can easily begin in the first position on the guitar. When you begin to play country guitar solos just play over the chords. Do not go looking for a "country scale", although the blues scale is quite handy in country guitar playing. The trick is to practice with whatever chord shapes you have at your stage of playing and see what kind of riffs, licks and tricks you can get out of each of them. It is a very interesting way to learn because every chord has its unique character. Start with your basic chords like C, D, E, G, and A.

So if you want to learn to play country guitar solos which guitar players do you listen to? Listening to Chet Atkins will teach alot to a guitarist in any genre. He is largely responsible for the smooth Nashville sound which is so attractive to many music lovers. Chet owes his style to Merle Travis, using his thumb to pick bass notes and other fingers to play the melody and fills. And do not forget to look for music recorded by Merle Travis himself. Another guitar great is Jerry Reed. A guitarist with boundless energy and enthusiasm, he played on the Elvis Presley single of his own compositions "Guitar Man" and "US Male". This list could go on and on, so let us finish by mentioning Albert Lee, a British guitar player admired by many other famous guitarists.

How to Buy a Pawn Shop Guitar the Safe Way

There is something about pawn shops. In fact, some people recorded whole albums about them. As a man, I think it's the smell. Seriously. Next time you walk past a pawn shop, walk in and take a big huge sniff. It's the smell of a potential bargain, a possible rip off. Pawn shop hunting is the modern day civilized hunting expedition.

On a recent hunting trip I managed to trap a PRS SE Single Cut Soap bar Model. It's an SE, so it's a Korean model. I had a look online and it lists for about 700 pounds, so it's still a bargain.

Basically, I was looking for a cheap guitar case at the pawn brokers because I'm one case short these days, and as I was leaving I saw it in the window. I came home, asked the better half if I can get guitar number seven and she said ok, because she knows how much I want a PRS, and [suck up mode] because she is the most lovely person in the word [/suck up mode].

I went back up to the pawn broker, and asked for a play. It was awful. Absolutely unplayable. He said he had it in there for a while and that it had been reduced because for some reason he can't sell it. All the problem was is that the bass side of the bridge was WAAAYYY to low. I pulled out a ten cent coin, four turns of the bridge bolt, BINGO, perfect playability.

Yeah, the tone control will likely need replacing, but big whoop. It sounds beautiful, even with the dead strings on it. I even got him to throw in a case for $0. Bargain and a half.

How much I hear you all ask.

$499 Australian Dollars. Go do the math! I can't wait to finish paying this off in the next few weeks and going wild. It just seems to be that every guitar I want is falling right in front of me. I few months ago, I was really wanting an S-S-S Strat. Then I get a phone call from someone I had not seen in two years offering me her partner's guitar that he does not play. It was an S-S-S Strat. $100 later and it was mine. Now I get the PRS I've been wanting for years.

So here are my rules for pawn shop guitaring.

1. Never impulse buy
You see something you like, don't just grab it and run (unless you think you can get away without getting caught). Play the guitar for a while. Put it down and come back in the next few days. See if it still feels the same and has the same appeal as that initial reaction. The last thing that you want to do is to buy a guitar that you loved at the time only to take back to the same pawn shop a few weeks later.

2. Have a goal
This follows on from tip number one. Have a goal as to what type of guitar you are after. By that I mean you should a clear definition of what you want to buy. This will help you avoid the impulse buy, and focus your attention so you don't get distracted by all the shiny things in the shop. Going back to my PRS example, I've been looking for a nice guitar with soap bar style pickups now to round out my collection. I wasn't necessarily after a PRS, but that came as a giant bonus. It was the only guitar that had the features I was after, and as such was the only guitar I picked up and tried. Don't by a guitar that you don't need, unless of course it is something exceptional.

3. Play with the knobs and know how a guitar works
The ones on the guitar you dirty fiends. Turn all the knobs, waggle the lead, and flick all the switches. Make sure they all work, and if not, have a rough idea if you can fix it yourself or how much it may cost you. You don't want to spend $100 on a guitar and then have to do $300 worth of work on it. The PRS has a busted tone pot, and I can most likely fix that myself, and at worse, I no someone who will fix it for a few beers. You also need to know a little about the setup of guitars. The PRS again is a great example. The strings were to low, and after looking down the neck I could tell the issue was just the bridge height. Simple things like that can get you a bargain. This guitar had been ignored my who knows how many people before me because they did not know how to correct that simple problem. A little knowledge is your friend here.

4. Try some different amps
This is very important. The person running the pawn shop will always plug you into a small Fender combo and crank the reverb. I honestly think that those small combos were designed by Fender exclusively for the pawn shop industry because they make every guitar sound great. So try the guitar with that crappy 15W no name amp as well. It will give you a much better idea on the true sound quality.

5. Don't pay for the case
From my experience, the person who pawns off any decent guitar will have had it in a case, and the case will likely be out the back of the shop. Ask about the case, ask if it is included in the price, and if not ask why not. 75% you'll get the case for free, 20% heavily discounted, and the remaining 5% involves you walking out of the store. They want the sale just a bad as you want to buy the guitar so let them chase you.

Well, I've got a few weeks until I get my new pawn shop beauty. I'll make sure to let you know how she settles in.

Electric Guitar's Rebel History

As with many inventions, the electric guitar initially met with skepticism from original performers as well as from guitar makers and traditional audiences. Country and blues players and jazz instrumentalists initially took to the variety of new tones and sounds offered by the electric guitar, as they explored new sounds and found ways to change, bend, and have longer sustained notes.

In the 1950s, rock and roll found a new home in the electric guitar's greater volume and the driving tones that appealed to teen audiences (who had newfound spending dollars). While the electric guitar impacted other music, the electric guitar was at the center of the cultural rebellion that symbolized rock and roll. The new guitar "legend" was created: with slicked-back hair, a leather jacket, a motorcycle, and "sizzling" electric guitar.

The Spanish-styled solid-body guitar design became associated with rock and roll. The earliest known commercially produced Spanish solid-body electric guitar is the 1939 Slingerland. Les Paul experimented with a similar design in 1940. In 1947 Paul Bigsby teamed up with famed country singer Merle Travis to produce a solid-body guitar that is very similar to the guitars used still to this day.

But it was Leo Fender that especially revolutionized the electric guitar along with his awesome line of amps. As a radio repairman, he designed great amps with a highly desired tone. He was also the first to successfully mass-produce and market a Spanish-style solid-body electric guitar. The success of his Telecaster line and later Stratocaster line, inspired additional manufacturers to start making their own models.

Gibson was Fender's first major competitor in 1952. Expert guitarist Les Paul helped publicize and design the Gibson guitars, which included his legendary Les Paul models. It was the mass production of Fender and Gibson guitars that lowered the price and made them reachable by teenagers across the country. Now any teenager could envision themselves as being in a musical rebellion.

In the 1960s, many people thought that rock and roll would be a quick fad, but with the Beatles and Beach Boys and other groups of the 1960s, rock and roll dominated the music and became powerfully rooted in the American culture.

It was also in the 1960s that guitarists found new sounds and most guitarists were using distortion and other special effects such as tremolo and reverb.

Distortion and feedback became commonplace with guitarists like Hendrix, Van Halen and Tom Scholz.

In the early 1970s, you also saw new guitar effects such as phaser, flanger, compressor, tube screamer, octaver, and many others offering a wide range of sounds that continue to be used to this day. And now you can get these effects built in to a modeling amp and combine effects in a way that they complement each other rather than competing with each other.

The last few decades have also seen the rise of the professional female guitarist. Pioneers like Heart and Bonnie Raitt have given women respect in an industry that was traditionally male-dominated.

The electric guitar has been around for sixty years. Even though the 1980s were heavily dominated with synthesizers, the electric guitar is still in all types of music and is played and listened to by men and women of every age.

Play Jazz Now

Getting that jazz sound can be a complex process. It is impossible to say who have the greatest jazz tone and sound as we are all different and are subjective in our listening. What I'm about to share with you acts as a general guide in the area of getting that jazz tone and should be improvise upon should you feel like it.

The Guitar

For an authentic jazz tone, you should have a semi-acoustic hollow body electric guitar. The Gibson ES-175 or the Gretch Tennessean can run into thousands of dollars but there are also excellent entry models such as Ibanez Artcore line of guitars. Guitars by Yamaha or Guild also make great entry level semi-acoustics. Epiphone, owned by Gibson are designed for the aspiring musician to own a Gibson but lack the budget to do so. What you get is a fantastic sounding guitar made by Gibson but at a much much lower price. Look for a guitar which provides a clean tone with plenty of sustain.

Jazz guitar players often plays with a rich mellow tone that is suitable for the style. Roll off the treble on your guitar's controls to achieve that.

A Jazz Guitar Amplifier

The playing style and sound that you wish to attain will determine the amp you need. Very often, traditional jazz guitar players uses solid state amps that can produce a clean sound which compliment acoustic arch-top guitars. For others seeking a more distorted sound, a tube amp might be just what you are looking for. Many jazz guitarists use a Fender Pro or a Polytone. On board effects maybe another requirement you are looking for. This can range from a overdrive channel to a reverb channel.

Effect Pedals

A hint of reverb is all you need if you are one who does not want to meddle with effects. However, many modern jazz guitar players today includes an arsenal of effect pedals in their effects chain ranging from chorus, overdrive, distortion and even wah-wah pedal. A word of advice. When using effects, ensure they compliment your playing style and that you retain that "clarity" in your tone. Many guitar players often make the mistake of cluttering their guitar tone with too many effects which results in a poor quality muddy sound.

In summary, listen, listen, listen. Listen to recordings by all the jazz guitarists. Listen closely to their sounds and try to emulate them. When done enough, you'll be able to find that unique tone in your guitar sound which you have crafted. Congratulations! You have found your very own signature sound!

Electric Guitar Lessons For Beginners - Buying Your First Electric Guitar Amplifier

Electric guitar amplifiers come in many sizes, power, features, and prices. They are a lot more affordable and better quality than ever before because of transistor and computer technologies that allow better and faster sound processing and innumerable variety of sound effects and controls. Common guitar effects such as reverb, distortion, and overdrive are now built-in to these guitar amplifiers. There are also amplifiers that come with guitar tuners, play-along drum samples, metronomes, and various add-ons.

First time guitarists can get a good practice amp for under $100, powerful enough to fill a room. These types of amps do little more than increase the volume and allow you to control the bass, treble and mid tones. Most of these types of amps also have basic effects such as distortion and overdrive. Extensive features and power drive usually drive the cost of the guitar and professional ones can cost up to a few thousand dollars.
A common choice for novice guitarists is a basic 15-watt amp, which is a small amp that can fill a room but not powerful enough to get a solid sound that will wow people. These are ideal for practicing in the bedroom but not for playing in a studio or along with a full live band. The sound that comes from small amps such as these can be easily drowned with loud drum playing.

Not all 15-watt amps are the same, however. Some have better tone and sound quality than others, and are therefore more expensive. One example is the Fender Pro Junior, which is the ultimate beginner amp. While it has no reverb or EQ, it has great sound quality that can be used in a full band setup. The clincher is that it comes under $400 and may be a bit too expensive for the beginning guitarist.

In the end, choosing the right amp is still a matter of sound preference. Some sound warmer than others (tube amps, for example, which produce a more vintage sound), while others sound brighter or cleaner. Depending on what type of music you want to play, you can then base your decision on what kind of amplifier to buy. Some are better for jazz and blues playing while others are great for metal or rock. When shopping for an amp, go to a guitar music store and try out several amps to see for yourself how different they sound at relatively the same settings. A few minimum requirements you may want to consider are a "clean" and overdrive channel, a 3-band EQ (low, mid, high), reverb, and control of presence.

Keeping the above points in mind will help you when buying your first amplifier.

How to get a Jazz Guitar Sound

The word Jazz often evokes a darkly light Smokey club with musicians expertly improvising against seemingly complex chord progressions. Featuring passionate tone - getting that jazz sound can be a complex process - in this article we'll address what you'll need to get a great jazz guitar sound.

A Jazz Guitar

Getting the right guitar for a jazz sound used to be expensive. Jazz masters such as Wes Montgomery and Joe Pass may have played expensive Gibson Semi's but these days there are a variety of entry level guitars that are suitable for getting a jazz tone.

For an authentic jazz tone, you should have a semi-acoustic hollowbody electric guitar. Models such as the Gibson ES-175 or the Gretch Tennessean can run into thousands of dollars but there are also excellent entry models such as Ibanez Artcore line of guitars. Guitar manufacturers such as Yamaha or Guild also make entry level semi-acoustics similar to the more expensive Gibson 335. There are also numerous Epiphone hollowbody guitars that will also be suitable and come from the Gibson stable. Explore your local music store and try out what they look for something that is comfortable to play and can produce a tight clean tone with plenty of sustain.

Hollow body guitars will provide a suitable mellow tone and most will be fitted with two humbucker pickups allowing you to vary your sound accordingly. Most guitars will be fitted with tone controls. Practice rolling the treble off your tone and experimenting - Jazz guitarists often play with a less trebly sound as it produces a rich mellow resonance that is suitable for the style.

A Jazz Guitar Amplifier

Whilst it could be said that there is "no jazz amp" there are a number of considerations for the jazz guitarist when selecting an amplifier.
Firstly it is important to determine the playing style and sound that you wish to attain. Traditional jazz guitarists often choose amps that can produce a clean sound which compliment acoustic archtop guitars. For this sound solid state amps produce a nice clean tone. For a more distorted sound a tube amp may be more applicable. There are many popular amps that are used by Jazz guitarists for example - try experimenting with a Fender Pro or a Polytone
Another requirement may be on board effects this may range from simple reverb to an overdrive channel - again this will depend on the style your trying to achieve.

Effects

Traditional Jazz may only require a hint of reverb but many modern jazz guitarists apply a range of effects from Chorus, Overdrive through to delay. There are many effects units available from single stomp boxes to complex digital "modeling" devices such as the Line 6 Pod. When choosing effects ensure they compliment your playing style and that you retain that "clarity" in your tone. Too many effects often muddy the sound and do not produce a quality sound.

Conclusion

In summary there are primarily 3 things that you should investigate when trying to get a jazz tone. Ultimately you should also listen to a wide range of jazz greats - listen closely to their sounds and try to emulate them. Ultimately when you have done this a few times they will begin to merge and you will begin to develop your own tone that will sound equally brilliant!
